During the age of the High Republic Era, Jedi Master Zallah Macri, accompanied by her Padawan Kevmo Zink, were dispatched by the Jedi Order to the planet Dalna. This mission was initiated after the Rod of Seasons was stolen from Hynestia Prime.
Following clues that pointed to the involvement of the Path of the Open Hand, a local cult, the two Jedi arrived on Dalna. Zink encountered members of the Path on Dalna, and he learned that they considered the application of Force powers to be an "abuse" of the Force. The Jedi eventually concluded that the cult members were indeed responsible for stealing the Rod of Seasons and that they were in possession of it. The Mother, the leader of the cult, had deployed a team of operatives known as the Children to "liberate" the rod and other Force artifacts.
However, when Macri and Zink infiltrated the Path compound with the intention of recovering the stolen artifacts, their presence was detected. In response, the Mother unleashed a creature she referred to as the Leveler upon them. This creature overwhelmed them and killed them, transforming them into stone and dust. Jedi Knight Azlin Rell was sent to investigate their disappearance, and he discovered their remains, which he then reported to Jedi Master Rinn on Elphrona. Rinn and Rell jointly reported the mysterious deaths to the Jedi High Council. Approximately two months after the demise of Macri and Zink, a number of Jedi missions to Dalna were launched. Following the Battle of Jedha, the Path had returned to their homeworld and mounted a defense against the Jedi, an event that would become known as the Night of Sorrow.
