The group known as the Children of the Open Hand, alternatively referred to as the Children of the Path, or simply as the Children, constituted a faction within the Path of the Open Hand cult. This faction was established by the Mother and subsequently headed by Yana Ro. Cincey, Treze, and Kor Plouth were also members of this group.
The Children's purpose was to carry out missions beyond Dalna for the Mother, and they were granted significantly more latitude than other Path adherents. These missions involved the acquisition of Force artifacts from individuals perceived by the Path of the Open Hand as misusing the Force and thus causing galactic harm, with the artifacts being returned to their compound. However, the Children's missions eventually expanded to include the "liberation" of artifacts from both private collections and religious institutions. In addition to these artifact retrieval operations, the Path sought to disseminate its ideology and enlist new followers throughout the galaxy. Their assignments also encompassed the enforcement of the Mother's objectives in other systems, as demonstrated during the Eiram and E'ronoh War. While venturing offworld from Dalna, the Path's homeworld, was a freedom in itself, the Children also had the freedom to excuse themselves from Path rituals as they wished, which Ro appreciated as she often found them irritating.
Through the Mother's manipulations, all Children except Yana Ro were killed during an ambush that the Mother orchestrated on Thelj. Later, a new group of Children was assembled under the leadership of the Herald. This new iteration included Ro, along with Shea Ganandra and Barkov. During the Battle of Jedha, the Mother charged this group with locating and retrieving the Rod of Daybreak. Donning masks and armor, they conducted raids on various locations across Jedha until they discovered the Rod within an unidentified_vault situated beneath the statue of the Final Protector Jedi.
