Around 3623 BBY, Sa'har Kateen, a former Jedi Padawan who became an Alliance Commander, embarked on a mission. This mission was to infiltrate the Hidden Chain flagship and pilfer Darth Nul's holocron. The purpose of this theft was to prevent Heta Kol from raising an army of Force-wielding individuals for her war efforts.

After halting the activities of the Hidden Chain at Kessan's Landing, Sa'har Kateen contacted the Alliance Commander. She revealed that Heta had successfully reconstructed the machine from Darth Nul's Temple located on Elom. Heta Kol believed this device would provide her with a legion of loyal Force-sensitives. Sa'har then outlined her scheme to penetrate a Hidden Chain command ship and recover the holocron, thus disabling the machine's functionality.
The pair encountered Ri'kan Kateen, who, consumed by fury, triggered the machine in an attempt to eliminate both Sa'har and the Commander. However, this act only resulted in severely damaging the ship, leading to its impending self-destruction. Although Ri'kan was defeated, the explosion from the now-destroyed machine left him clinging precariously to the edge. Sa'har then moved to rescue him. The Commander initially secured the holocron before attempting to assist the Twi'lek siblings, but the path was obstructed by falling debris, forcing the Commander to evacuate the vessel.

With the ship obliterated and the holocron secured, the Commander established contact with Arn Peralun. The Commander updated Arn on the captured holocron and the liberated slaves who were rescued from the Hidden Chain.
The player has the choice to simply seize the holocron and abandon Sa'har and Ri'kan to their fate in exchange for dark side points. Imperial players are later contacted by Darth Krovos concerning both the slaves and Nul's holocron. Krovos requests that the slaves be dispatched to Korriban to further augment the ranks of the Sith within the Empire. He also demands that Nul's holocron be delivered to the Empire for safekeeping.
