Sometime around 230 BBY, Marchion Ro, who was the leader of the Nihil, along with a group of Nihil loyal to him known as the She'ar, embarked on a quest to Planet X. Their objective was to retrieve a significant number of Nameless species members. Ro's intention was to deploy them against the Jedi Order, leveraging the Nameless's ability to feed on Force-sensitives. Ro initiated this quest, guided by ancestral knowledge from his family, by intentionally sacrificing numerous Nihil strikeships and their Nihil scout pilots to the planet's volatile outer layer, which he referred to as the veil. By diverting the veil's attention with the strikeships, Ro and the She'ar successfully infiltrated it using the Cloudship Ikoru. After activating the Rod of Seasons, one of a set of ancient rods designed to control the Nameless, to summon the creatures, Ro and the She'ar faced attacks from various creatures and fauna of the planet, as well as the planet itself, due to its sentient nature. Ro and the She'ar managed to secure several Nameless aboard the Ikoru and escape the planet, but the endeavor resulted in the death of many She'ar members. The operation also led to the acquisition of several Nameless eggs. All but one of these eggs either decayed or hatched with such severe debilitation that the creatures had to be euthanized. The lone surviving Nameless from the eggs—later named Grendrek—became the property of Niv Drendow Apruk, a teenage Umbaran scientist. Nevertheless, by 228 BBY, Ro still possessed a few eggs.
