A father to Mitth'ras'safis was a Chiss male (gender). He belonged, along with his wife, to a minor family within the Chiss Ascendancy; their son, having been raised within the Mitth, was unable to remember his parent's original family name. One week prior to his son's birth, Mitth'ras'safis's father was killed when he stopped an assassination attempt that targeted Mitth Patriarch Mitth'oor'akiord, who at the time was traveling without fanfare. The Patriarch, impressed by this act of selflessness, offered to rematch his widow and child to the Mitth family. He went to the extent of making Thrass's mother a ranking distant member and altering the rematching date to formally recognize their son as a cousin within the family. Thrass later recounted the story of his birth to Thrawn, also known as Mitth'raw'nuruodo, after declaring him his brother, aiming to ease Thrawn's acceptance of their newfound familial bond. Thrawn voiced his respect for the noble sacrifice of Thrass's father, which Thrass confirmed as being representative of his father's character. Shortly before his own demise on the Lesser Space starship, Thrass thought back to his father's memory, drawing parallels between his father's willingness to sacrifice himself for a stranger and his own readiness to give his life to safeguard the innocent strangers remaining on the vessel.
