The Chiss Syndic Mitth'ras'safis "Thrass"'s parents came from a lesser house within the Chiss Ascendancy, which is the Chiss species' nation. Before Thrass was born, his father died while heroically saving Mitth family Patriarch Mitth'oor'akiord, whose core name was "Thooraki," from being assassinated. As a result, the patriarch gave Thrass's mother an opportunity to join the Mitth family as a ranking distant—the Mitth family's third-highest position—an offer she accepted. This made Thrass a cousin, holding the second-highest rank in Thooraki's family.
This family was referenced in the 2021 novel Thrawn Ascendancy: Lesser Evil, the last book of the Star Wars: The Ascendancy Trilogy by Timothy Zahn. Within the Star Wars Legends universe, Mitth'ras'safis and Mitth'raw'nuruodo shared a blood family that initially appeared in Zahn's 2006 novel, Outbound Flight.
