Mogu

The Mogu were a mammalian species of predators, specifically carnivores, that inhabited the planet of Koboh. These typically ferocious predators favored a hunting style of stalking their prey before launching aggressive attacks. Similar creatures could be observed on planets with diverse climates, for example, the wampa which is indigenous to Hoth. The two species shared a close evolutionary link, and are considered cousins.

Biology and appearance

These towering, bipedal creatures, covered in thick, shaggy hair, were highly aggressive predators that were native to Koboh, a world located in the Outer Rim. Resembling the wampa of Hoth in both appearance and behavior, the species' cousin, the mogu possessed remarkable strength and extremely sharp claws. Their dense fur provided effective camouflage within the forests of Koboh, a feature they exploited to stalk their victims before launching violent assaults.

Their considerable physical power enabled the mogu to lift their prey and forcefully slam them onto the ground, rendering them incapacitated. They also utilized their claws during attacks. In a manner similar to wampas, these creatures commonly chose to drag their subdued prey back to their lairs, often caves, where the prey would be preserved for later consumption.

History

The planet Koboh was the native home of the Mogu. Before 9 BBY, a specific mogu became a victim of the lethal swamp known as the Viscid Bog. However, unlike the majority of creatures, this particular individual managed to survive, eventually becoming known as the Mire Terror, a fearsome beast that slaughtered numerous unfortunate prospectors.

During the events of 9 BBY, the Jedi Knight known as Cal Kestis encountered multiple mogu while on Koboh, as part of his quest to reach the planet Tanalorr.

During a perilous journey through the Viscid Bog, Kestis faced and ultimately defeated the Mire Terror, thereby ending its terrifying reign over the swamps of Koboh.

Behind the scenes

The Mogu were originally conceived for the 2023 video game titled Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. These creatures exhibit a clear resemblance to the wampa, which was initially introduced in Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back. The game's Tactical Guide suggests a possible relationship between the two species. This connection was later officially confirmed in The Art of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. The idea of a brown-furred, warm-climate wampa was first explored with the cliff wampa in the 1996 video game Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire.

An easter egg can be found on Koboh, featuring a mogu posing as a model for paintings created by B1 battle droids.
