Tanalorr, nestled within the Koboh Abyss nebula in the Galactic Frontier region of the Outer Rim, was a planet of peace, paradise, and significant Force presence. Jedi Knight Dagan Gera first discovered it during the High Republic Era. A Jedi temple once stood on this world before it suffered an invasion by Nihil marauders. The Jedi Council's order to abandon Tanalorr ultimately fueled Gera's subsequent betrayal against the Jedi Order.
During the Imperial Era, the long-lost planet once again became a focal point, drawing the attention of a reawakened Gera, the forces of the Galactic Empire, and the crew of the Stinger Mantis. While Gera met his end before reaching Tanalorr, Bode Akuna, a treacherous member of the Mantis crew, successfully landed there with his daughter, Kata. Following them through the Abyss were Jedi Knight Cal Kestis and his remaining crewmates, leading to a final duel on the planet between Kestis and Akuna, with the Nightsister Merrin, an ally of Kestis, also participating.
After his victory over Akuna, resulting in the latter's death, Kestis and the Mantis crew resolved to establish Tanalorr as a haven for the Hidden Path, offering a secure refuge for those facing persecution under the Empire's rule.

Tanalorr, shielded by the Koboh Abyss nebula, was a serene and idyllic planet with a strong connection to [the Force](/article/the_force], remaining largely untouched until the Imperial Era.

During the High Republic era, Jedi Knight Dagan Gera gained renown for discovering and naming Tanalorr while charting a course through the dangerous Koboh Abyss nebula. The planet quickly became a significant point of interest for Gera and his fellow Jedi, including Master Santari Khri. The Gen'Dai warrior Rayvis also made a visit to the planet at some point.
The data gathered from Gera's exploration was subsequently used to develop Abyss compasses, specialized devices designed to safely navigate the treacherous path through the Abyss to Tanalorr.

Due to Tanalorr's strong connection to the Force, Gera envisioned the construction of a temple on the planet to train initiates, effectively establishing a stronghold of Jedi influence in the Outer Rim. Master Oppo Rancisis journeyed to Tanalorr to evaluate its potential as a Jedi base. During his assessment, the Nihil launched an assault on the planet. Despite the Jedi's valiant defense, the Jedi Council ultimately ordered the planet's abandonment, deeply angering Gera. This pivotal event triggered his descent to the dark side, culminating in his imprisonment in stasis within a bacta tank. For centuries afterward, Tanalorr remained undisturbed, with knowledge of how to reach it either lost or deliberately suppressed.
Centuries later, during the height of the Imperial Era in 9 BBY, Tanalorr had transformed into a legend among the prospectors of Koboh, who believed it to be a hidden world brimming with treasure. After Jedi Knight Cal Kestis freed Gera from his imprisonment, various factions sought to find a path to Tanalorr. These included Gera and his Bedlam Raider allies, the Stinger Mantis crew, and Bode Akuna, a former Jedi concealing his true identity as a member of the Mantis crew. Gera intended to use Tanalorr as a base to transform the Bedlam Raiders into an army led by disciples trained in the Force to combat the Empire. The Mantis crew aimed to establish Tanalorr as a sanctuary for the Hidden Path, providing refuge for those persecuted by the Empire and training fighters to resist it. Akuna's goal was to reach Tanalorr with his daughter to live free from the Empire's grasp forever.
Gera eventually discovered that Santari Khri had preserved an Abyss compass in her observatory on Koboh and set out to retrieve it. This attracted the attention of both the Galactic Empire, who clashed with the Bedlam Raiders for control of the observatory, and the Mantis crew. Akuna and Cal Kestis reached the observatory's peak, where they defeated Gera in a fierce lightsaber duel. They then recovered the compass, which was damaged during the fight, and entrusted it to Eno Cordova for repairs.

Akuna later betrayed Kestis and murdered Cordova on Jedha, stealing the compass and revealing his past as a Jedi. For Akuna, Tanalorr represented a final escape from the control of the Imperial Security Bureau, which had been exploiting him for covert operations in exchange for protection from the Inquisitors. After retrieving his daughter Kata from the ISB base on Nova Garon, Akuna departed for Tanalorr.
However, a recording from Santari Khri revealed an alternate route to Tanalorr: aligning the Forest Array, Shattered Moon Array, and the array on her observatory to create a safe passage through the Abyss. Kestis and the Mantis crew employed this method to reach Tanalorr, where Kestis and the Nightsister Merrin confronted Akuna in a final duel that resulted in Akuna's demise. The Mantis crew held a memorial service for Akuna, Cordova, and Cere Junda, all of whom had perished during the journey to Tanalorr. Subsequently, preparations were made to establish Tanalorr as a haven for the Hidden Path, with the Mantis crew safeguarding the final compass.
Tanalorr was conceived for the 2023 video game Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. It is a critical element in the game's narrative, acting as a primary motivator for many characters and serving as the last planet the player explores before the game's conclusion.
