Rayvis

Rayvis, a male Gen'Dai warrior, commanded the Bedlam Raiders, a band of marauders operating from Koboh. During the High Republic Era, this formidable warrior had ended the lives of numerous Jedi. After Dagan Gera, a celebrated Jedi Knight, defeated Rayvis in combat, Rayvis became his loyal enforcer and servant. Even after Gera was in stasis for two centuries, Rayvis's dedication remained unwavering. Upon escaping his own imprisonment, he liberated Gera in 9 BBY, reigniting Gera's pursuit to reclaim the planet Tanalorr.

Subsequently, Rayvis faced defeat at the hands of Cal Kestis, a Jedi Knight, during their confrontation. After yielding in their duel, Kestis granted Rayvis the honorable warrior's death that the Jedi before him had refused to provide.

Biography

Era of the High Republic

Rayvis, a Gen'Dai warrior, emerged during the High Republic Era. He gained notoriety as a skilled slayer of Jedi, collecting their lightsabers as trophies. These lightsabers were later gifted to his most trusted subordinates.

Prior to the Nihil's attack on Tanalorr, Rayvis engaged in a duel with Jedi Knight Dagan Gera. Gera emerged victorious, a feat unmatched by any other Jedi in Rayvis's experience. Consequently, the Gen'Dai pledged his life in service to Gera, who spared his life.

Following Gera's betrayal of the Jedi Order, the disgraced Jedi was placed within a bacta tank, entering a state of stasis. Rayvis then interrogated and eliminated several Jedi within a cavern on Koboh, desperately seeking information regarding his master's location. After some time, a group of Jedi Masters subdued him, opting to imprison him for centuries rather than end his life. Rayvis harbored resentment towards the Jedi for this perceived dishonor, believing they had denied him a warrior's death.

Imperial Era

After the fall of the Jedi Order, Rayvis successfully broke free from his confinement. His loyalty to Gera remained strong, and he immediately resumed his search for the fallen Jedi Master. To achieve this, Rayvis established the Bedlam Raiders, a group of marauders assembled from various subjugated bandit groups on Koboh, reinforced by remnants of Separatist battle droids. Despite years of searching, he made little headway in locating and reviving Gera.

However, in 9 BBY, fate brought Jedi Knight Cal Kestis to Koboh. Rayvis encountered Kestis near Pyloon's Saloon, instructing a Raider named Zeik to eliminate Turgle, who had sold Rayvis a fraudulent version of the relic needed to awaken Gera. Kestis intervened, killing Zeik after Rayvis commanded him to kill the Jedi. Rayvis applauded Kestis before departing the Rambler's Reach Outpost peacefully.

Through sheer luck, Kestis acquired the genuine relic, a tuner held by the droid ZN-A4, known as "Zee." Zee tasked Kestis with completing her mission and reviving Gera, with Rayvis secretly observing. After Kestis successfully awakened his master, Rayvis arrived and swiftly transported Gera to the Bedlam Raiders' base.

Later, Rayvis discovered Kestis infiltrating the Raider base and seized him, reacting with amusement when the Jedi attempted to stab him. Disarming Kestis, Rayvis confiscated the tuner before attempting to strike him. Kestis summoned his lightsaber, severing Rayvis's left forearm, causing him to drop his captive. After reattaching his limb, Rayvis attempted to charge Kestis, only for BD-1 to slam him through the wall with a large container.

Choosing not to pursue the Jedi, Rayvis focused on replicating the tuner's frequencies to access any site Santari Khri may have sealed, before presenting the device to Gera. Upon informing Gera of Kestis' escape, he was mocked for allowing his incarceration to dull his edge. He countered that Kestis was Gera's equal, prompting Gera to threaten to cut out his tongue if he repeated it. Rayvis remained unfazed, given his regenerative capabilities. Nevertheless, he emphasized Kestis's threat to their plan, but Gera dismissed him, ordering him to the Shattered Moon to activate the array there, believing he knew where Khri had hidden the final Abyss compass, a device necessary to reach Tanalorr. Rayvis informed the former Jedi that he would consider his oath of loyalty fulfilled after Gera obtained the compass. He then mused that he was unsure of what he would do after his oath ended, believing there were many wars, but no honor to be won in them. Gera suggested they dream up a new war on Tanalorr, and Rayvis considered the option.

Death

Rayvis dueled Cal Kestis on the Shattered Moon

Following Gera's instructions, Rayvis traveled to the Shattered Moon, where he was once again confronted by Kestis. Instead of revealing the compass's location when asked by Kestis, Rayvis spoke of how the Jedi of the High Republic Era had disgraced him by denying him a warrior's death. He then challenged Kestis to a duel, promising to provide the information he sought only if he proved himself worthy in combat.

After an intense duel, Rayvis yielded to Kestis, and—true to his word—revealed that the final compass was located in Khri's personal observatory on Koboh. Although Kestis requested that Rayvis join him in defeating Dagan, the Gen'Dai warrior refused, instead demanding that Kestis grant him his warrior's death. Rayvis charged at Kestis, forcing the Jedi to sever his arm. Rayvis bowed his head in acceptance, allowing Kestis to sever his core nerves and grant him the honorable death he had been denied for centuries.

Personality and traits

Gen'Dai warrior Rayvis.

Rayvis was a towering Gen'Dai, belonging to a species renowned for their remarkable regenerative abilities, making them exceptionally difficult to kill.

Despite his brutality and leadership of the ruthless Bedlam Raiders, Rayvis possessed a strong sense of honor, adhering to the Gen'Dai's strict code. He pledged loyalty to Dagan Gera, the first to defeat him in combat, and his devotion remained steadfast even after two centuries of separation. He was also a charismatic leader, capable of uniting diverse bandit groups from Koboh to form the Bedlam Raiders. He harbored a deep-seated hatred for the Jedi, believing they had dishonored him by denying him a warrior's death. His loyalty to Dagan Gera further fueled this hatred, as he believed the Jedi had betrayed Gera, when in fact Gera had betrayed the Jedi.

He dismissed the Jedi teachings of patience, peace, and humility as meaningless platitudes. He believed the galaxy would remember the Jedi Order's brutality during the Clone Wars, not the diplomacy they sought to be known for. He also believed that the Jedi that fell to the Empire were a pale shadow of those from Dagen’s age, despite Kestis persevering.

Rayvis believed that power was paramount and equated it with freedom. He reveled in the thrill of battle and relished facing challenging opponents. During his final duel with Cal Kestis, he declared that he would show no mercy and expected none in return. He claimed to enjoy the searing pain of a lightsaber wound, finding it more stimulating than any blaster fire.

Skills and abilities

Rayvis was a fearsome warrior.

Despite lacking Force sensitivity, Rayvis was a formidable warrior. His natural regenerative abilities made him incredibly resilient, even a lightsaber strike to the chest barely fazed him. In combat, he skillfully wielded his hybrid mace and flail, effortlessly swinging it or launching its spiked tip at enemies using a cord within the handle. He was also adept at using a blaster with deadly accuracy.

Rayvis's prowess allowed him to slay numerous Jedi, whose lightsabers he bestowed upon trusted lieutenants like Drya Thornne. Furthermore, Rayvis claimed that it took a multitude of Jedi to subdue him during the battle that led to his imprisonment in the High Republic Era. While still a formidable warrior in 9 BBY, his skills had diminished due to centuries of imprisonment, a fact acknowledged by both Dagan Gera and Rayvis himself.

Equipment

As a Gen'Dai, Rayvis required armor to maintain a humanoid form. His armor was custom-modified with back-mounted missile launchers and offered some resistance to lightsabers. His primary weapon was a lethal mace-flail hybrid, wielded one-handed or used for ranged attacks by launching its spiked tip via a handle-integrated cord. Rayvis also carried a large repeating blaster.
