Rambler's Reach Valley

title: Rambler's Reach Valley

Rambler's Reach Valley, often shortened to Rambler's Reach, represented a valley basin located on the planet of Koboh. It was the location of the small settlement, Rambler's Reach Outpost, and also a Bedlam Raider stronghold known as Fort Kah'Lin. During 9 BBY, the Jedi Knight Cal Kestis spent some time in this region as he was researching the hidden world of Tanalorr.

History

Well before the Republic first established a presence on Koboh, earlier civilizations had built structures of stone and mud directly into the cliffs. This ancient settlement was eventually deserted, and their constructions came to be regarded as the oldest on the planet. By the time of 9 BBY, a group of Jawas had taken up residence in the same area and constructed a digger crawler.

The name Rambler's Reach Valley was given by the initial priorite miners on Koboh, who considered the area to be the ideal location to establish themselves. Despite the demanding environment, it was an arid and rugged location with a diverse array of plant and animal life. During the High Republic Era, scientists affiliated with both the Jedi Order and the Galactic Republic collaborated in order to study the Koboh Abyss and the unusual Koboh matter. They maintained several facilities within and around the valley. Within Rambler's Reach Valley, the Jedi constructed two meditation chambers, and the Republic and Jedi jointly established the Alignment Control Center and observation posts inside the Phon'Qi caverns, among other sites. Following an Emergence event that impacted Koboh's moon, the resulting debris inflicted extensive damage to the surface of Koboh. This destruction expedited the departure of Jedi and Republic personnel, who subsequently abandoned the planet altogether.

In time, Rambler's Reach Valley experienced a resurgence as prospectors in search of priorite settled there. By 9 BBY, the settlement of Rambler's Reach Outpost had become firmly established. The town's unofficial mayor, Doma Dendra, operated Dendra's Antiquities within the town, and a cantina eventually known as Pyloon's Saloon was erected in the vicinity. Beneath the saloon was a series of smuggler's tunnels, providing entry to a significant landing pad. While many prospectors made their homes in the valley, other inhabitants sought a more rural way of life, such as raising nekko.

The early prospectors who based themselves in Rambler's Reach Valley developed intricate systems to supply the region with clean water. However, at some point, dams were built in the neighboring Dredger Gorge in order to reroute the flow of Koboh tar, enabling the discovery of priorite deposits. This action had the unintended consequence of causing the tar to back up into Rambler's Reach Valley. Ultimately, the tar infiltrated and passed through the valley's water purification system, thereby contaminating the water supply. Dendra evaluated the extent of the damage and determined that repairs were not viable. From then on, the local population obtained their water from the river that flowed through the valley. During 9 BBY, Cal Kestis made an emergency landing on Koboh and proceeded on foot to Rambler's Reach Valley, where he was reunited with his friend Greez Dritus, who had become the proprietor of the town's cantina, which he renamed in honor of his great-grandmother. Kestis frequently visited the cantina while investigating the Jedi history related to Tanalorr, a fabled planet believed to be located beyond the Koboh Abyss. In the process, Kestis found himself in conflict with the Bedlam Raiders, a local marauder group commanded by the Gen'Dai warrior Rayvis and his master, a fallen Jedi named Dagan Gera. The Bedlam Raiders ruthlessly oppressed the local residents of Rambler's Reach Valley, utilizing their reprogrammed battle droids and highly skilled fighters.

The actions of Kestis soon led to an increased presence of the Imperial forces in Rambler's Reach Valley, as well as the arrival of bounty hunters affiliated with the Haxion Brood.
