Rambler's Reach Valley

title: Rambler's Reach Valley

Rambler's Reach Valley, often shortened to Rambler's Reach, was a valley basin situated on the planet of Koboh. It housed the small settlement known as Rambler's Reach Outpost, as well as Fort Kah'Lin, a base belonging to the Bedlam Raiders. The Jedi Knight Cal Kestis spent time in this location in 9 BBY while he was investigating the hidden world of Tanalorr.

History

A long time before the Republic initially colonized Koboh, older civilizations constructed structures of stone and mud directly into the sides of cliffs. This ancient settlement was eventually deserted, and their constructions came to be known as the oldest on the planet. By 9 BBY, a group of Jawas had taken up residence in the same locale, where they constructed a digger crawler.

The first priorite prospectors on Koboh gave Rambler's Reach Valley its name, as they determined that the area was the ideal place to establish a settlement. Despite the challenging environment, the arid and rugged terrain supported a diverse range of plant and animal life. During the High Republic Era, scientists from both the Jedi Order and the Galactic Republic collaborated on research concerning the Koboh Abyss and the unusual Koboh matter. They maintained several facilities both within and in proximity to the valley. Within Rambler's Reach Valley, the Jedi erected a pair of meditation chambers, and the Republic and Jedi jointly constructed the Alignment Control Center and monitoring outposts inside the Phon'Qi caverns, among other installations. Following an Emergence that impacted Koboh's moon, the resulting debris inflicted extensive damage upon Koboh's surface. This destruction hastened the departure of Jedi and Republic personnel, who subsequently abandoned the planet altogether.

Eventually, prospectors searching for priorite established a new community in Rambler's Reach Valley. By 9 BBY, the town of Rambler's Reach Outpost was thriving. Doma Dendra, the town's informal mayor, operated Dendra's Antiquities within the town, and a cantina that would eventually be known as Pyloon's Saloon was built in the vicinity. A network of smuggler's tunnels existed beneath the saloon, providing access to a substantial landing pad. While many prospectors resided within the valley, others pursued a rural existence, such as herding nekko.

The initial prospectors who settled in Rambler's Reach Valley developed intricate systems to supply the area with potable water. However, at some point, dams were erected in the neighboring Dredger Gorge with the intention of diverting the flow of Koboh tar to facilitate the discovery of priorite deposits. This action unintentionally caused the tar to back up into Rambler's Reach Valley. The tar eventually infiltrated and permeated the valley's water treatment system, resulting in the contamination of the water supply. Dendra assessed the situation and determined that repair was not a viable option. From that moment forward, the local inhabitants obtained their water from the river that coursed through the valley.

In 9 BBY, Cal Kestis made an emergency landing on Koboh and proceeded on foot to Rambler's Reach Valley, where he was reunited with his friend Greez Dritus, who had become the proprietor of the town's cantina, which he renamed in honor of his great-grandmother. Kestis frequently visited the cantina while investigating the Jedi history of Tanalorr, a fabled planet rumored to be located beyond the Koboh Abyss. In the process, Kestis found himself in conflict with the Bedlam Raiders, a local group of marauders led by the Gen'Dai warrior Rayvis and his master, a fallen Jedi named Dagan Gera. The Bedlam Raiders subjected the residents of Rambler's Reach Valley to indiscriminate persecution, utilizing their reprogrammed battle droids and highly trained soldiers.

Kestis's activities soon led to an increased presence of the Imperial forces in Rambler's Reach Valley, as well as the arrival of bounty hunters from the Haxion Brood.
