The Mon Cal faction was a resistance movement of Mon Calamari people. This group was active in Mon Calamari space close to Overic Griplink during the Galactic Civil War, and it was under the leadership of Faa-Char. Despite the positive connections between the Alliance to Restore the Republic and Admiral Raddus along with his associated groups, the majority of the Mon Cal people hadn't yet been swayed to the Rebel Alliance's cause. The Galactic Empire considered the entire Mon Calamari species to be committing treason because of the activities of Raddus and the Mon Cal refugees he led.
A report to Mon Mothma featured the Mon Cal, detailing potential allies for the Rebel Alliance; this report was later integrated into The Rebel Files. Decades later, following the Empire's collapse and the emergence of the First Order, The Rebel Files were discovered and handed over to the Resistance. Admiral Gial Ackbar, while examining these files, took specific notice of Faa-Char.
