Both planets resided within the Slice region of the Outer Rim Territories. At Quermia, it met with the Perlemian Trade Route, providing a transfer point for those heading directly into the core of the galaxy, including the world of Coruscant. This route was among the closest major hyperspace lanes to the planet Atollon, found in the Lothal sector, which lay to the south.
A confidential document, created between 5 BBY and 4 BBY by General Davits Draven for Senator Mon Mothma of the Alliance to Restore the Republic, indicated that the Mon Cal resistance was operating in Mon Calamari space in proximity to the Overic Griplink.
Within current Star Wars canon, the initial reference to the Overic Griplink occurred within the 2016 reference work, Star Wars: The Rebel Files, penned by Daniel Wallace. The route's origins can be traced back to the Star Wars Legends continuity, where it was first cited in the 2009 reference book, The Essential Atlas, co-authored by Wallace and Jason Fry.
