A male being named Montrus existed during the era known as the Galactic Civil War, a time of great conflict.
Before the events of the Battle of Yavin, Montrus and Borvo, a Hutt crime lord operating from the planet of Naboo, were associated in business. That association eventually ended. Around 5 BBY, Montrus facilitated an introduction between Niksel Frangee and the Hutt, which led to Frangee becoming a member of Borvo's criminal organization. Unbeknownst to Borvo, Frangee was secretly an agent working for the Corellian Security Force.
Six years subsequently, in 1 ABY, Niksel Frangee's true identity as a CorSec operative was discovered, and he was killed by Borvo's subordinates. Borvo, suspecting that Montrus had knowledge of Frangee's real affiliation, hired a spacer to eliminate him. The spacer located Montrus at a Gungan monument situated in the Paitnnu Wetlands, close to the location of a historical Imperial vs. Gungan Battle, and carried out the assassination.
Montrus appeared as a non-player character within the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies. This game was a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game that was developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts. The game was shut down on December 15, 2011. Montrus's appearance was randomly selected from thirty-five possible designs due to the "borvo_montrus" template under which he spawned. However, the game's scenario made it clear that Montrus was male.
The original version of the game featured Borvo's former business associate as part of Borvo the Hutt's questline. The "Publish 25," update, also known as the "New Game Enhancements," which was released on November 15, 2005, included a revamped version of Borvo the Hutt's questline. While the questline's gameplay was significantly updated, the underlying storyline remained largely the same. The updated questline gave Borvo's former business partner the name Montrus.
