The Moralan were a sentient species that inhabited the planet of Moralan, which was situated within Hutt Space. Initially, they were enslaved by the Hutt race, but they later achieved freedom and established a republic with the support of the Tionese. Subsequently, the Hutts reconquered their republic, ultimately leading to the extinction of the Moralan people during the Xim Wars.
For a period of time, the Moralan were held as slaves by the Hutt species, who exerted control over Hutt Space, the region where the Moralan home planet was located. Following their liberation from slavery, facilitated by the encouragement of the Tionese, the Moralan formed an independent republic. This republic was governed by an entity known as the Parliament of Moralan.
The planet Moralan, located in the Moralan system, was the original home of the Moralan. As early as 25,127 BBY, their homeworld was situated in Hutt Space, a region of the galaxy controlled by the Hutts. The Moralan were subsequently enslaved by the Hutts. With the aid of the Tionese, who opposed the Hutts and deployed forces into the Moralan system during the Xim Wars (which occurred between 25,102 BBY and 25,096 BBY), the Moralan successfully liberated themselves from their oppressors.
The Moralan then established a sovereign republic, governed by the Parliament of Moralan. However, after the Tionese withdrew their military presence from the system following the Second Battle of Vontor, a Hutt named Boonta Hestilic Shad'ruu launched a campaign to conquer the Moralan republic. This conquest was achieved in a battle lasting three days. Subsequently, Boonta implemented a policy of sterilization on Moralan, resulting in the extinction of the entire species. This action served as a warning to other enslaved populations contemplating rebellion. Boonta's triumph over the Moralan was later commemorated with a three-day holiday known as Boonta's Eve, mirroring the duration of the battle.
The Moralan were initially referenced indirectly as a parliament in an article penned by Rich Handley and Abel G. Peña concerning the Star Wars: Droids animated series. This article appeared in issue 170 of the Polyhedron roleplaying magazine, which was published in June of 2004. The species was formally identified by name in The Essential Atlas, a reference book released in 2009 and authored by Jason Fry and Daniel Wallace.
