Natasha Liu Bordizzo, an actress originating from Australia, takes on the role of Sabine Wren in the television program Ahsoka, which premiered in 2023.
While working on the film Day Shift, Natasha Liu Bordizzo created a self-recorded audition where she portrayed a male pilot in a scene taken from Top Gun. In another segment, her character accepted payment from a woman for assistance, delivering the line: "Hey lady, I've got all these problems, so stop bothering me. All the work is moving south for the winter." Bordizzo received no details about the audition's purpose, but she speculated it related to a project involving Jon Favreau. After submitting the recording, she experienced a few weeks of silence. Subsequently, Bordizzo received a call inquiring about her fondness for The Mandalorian, to which she responded affirmatively. Several months later, Bordizzo had a meeting with Ahsoka executive producers Dave Filoni and Favreau, with the latter explaining his efforts to streamline the casting procedure.
Following Bordizzo's casting as the Mandalorian Sabine Wren in the series during 2021, Filoni and Favreau suggested she watch Star Wars Rebels, while also noting that the live-action adaptation would forge its own distinct path. Feeling a sense of duty, Bordizzo watched the show and found it to be valuable preparation. She was drawn to Wren's display of courage and spirit despite the hardships and sorrow she encountered. Keeping the casting a secret proved difficult. Bordizzo and Rosario Dawson, the performer of Ahsoka Tano, underwent wushu training under the guidance of stunt coordinator Ming Qiu. Bordizzo opted against enrolling in a spray painting course, believing Wren would learn through experimentation. At the Mando+ panel during Celebration Anaheim in 2022, the announcement was made that Bordizzo would portray Wren in Ahsoka.
