A night-lether was a species of flying animal that existed on the Core Worlds planet of Alderaan in the High Republic Era. These creatures, which traveled in groups, possessed the ability to sense magnetic fields for navigation. In 382 BBY, Jedi Knight Azlin Rell, along with his astromech droid, C-9, employed modified comms beacons to prevent night-lether flocks from colliding with Alderaan's high-rise structures. During that year, while attempting the same method to redirect a group of grass sharks, which also used magnetic fields to navigate, away from a trade post located on the planet Tiikae, Rell reminisced about the time when he and C-9 had utilized the same technique to protect Alderaan's buildings from night-lether collisions, sharing this memory with Jedi Padawan Kevmo Zink.
The young-adult novel The High Republic: Path of Deceit, released in 2022 and authored by Justina Ireland and Tessa Gratton, featured a mention of the night-lether. This novel was a component of Phase II of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia initiative.
