Nilo (clone commando)

RC-1570, known as Nilo, held the rank of captain and served as a clone commando within Tark Squad. This elite unit belonged to the Special Operations Brigade of the Galactic Republic during 21 BBY. Sarsius Torne, his genetic template and trainer, gave Nilo his moniker, which is derived from the Thyrsian letter representing zero.

Biography

The individual designated RC-1570, later known as Nilo, functioned as both a clone commando and leader of the squad named Tark Squad, serving under the banner of the Galactic Republic. However, Captain Nilo and his team were, in reality, Thyrsian mercenaries instructed by Sarsius Torne of the Sun Guards. They infiltrated the Grand Army of the Republic as part of an agreement with Zeta Magnus and Palpatine to recapture Anakin Skywalker. A cybernetic control band was implanted in Nilo to ensure his loyalty. During 21 BBY, Captain Nilo and his squad, disguised as a relief force, were dispatched to aid Jedi General Obi-Wan Kenobi in liberating the planet Skye from Zeta Magnus.

Under the cover of darkness, Captain Nilo and the rest of the liberation force infiltrated Zeta Magnus' fortress using a subterranean tunnel network, belonging to Entyrmion, that lay beneath the fortress. While traversing the cave system, the liberation team was ambushed by numerous Oskan blood eaters created by Zeta Magnus, resulting in the deaths of many S'kytri guides and Lord Klarymére, the Lord of the S'Kytri Highland Clans. Nilo eliminated the blood eaters using a Class-D detonator, which provoked Obi-Wan's disapproval, as he considered it an "affront to the force". Upon reaching Zeta Magnus' fortress, Nilo and Tark Squad led the Jedi Commanders into a field of R-TechApp Man Traps that used magnetism to immobilize the Jedi Commanders on the ground. Nilo and his squad then revealed their allegiance to Zeta Magnus, abandoning the Jedi Commanders to be tortured by Zeta Magnus and his torture droid. Nilo met his death within the fortress, being vaporized by a Class-D detonator employed by Jedi Commanders Anakin Skywalker and Halagad Ventor after he and his squad attempted to betray them.

Equipment

Nilo's uniform consisted of custom silver Katarn-class commando armor, complete with a distinctive pauldron to set him apart from his squadmates. His primary weapon was a DC-17m interchangeable rifle. He also carried Class-D detonators, despite their supposed prohibition under galactic law.

Behind the scenes

Nilo's name is a tribute to Nilo Rodis-Jamero, the artist behind the Emperor's Royal Guard concept art that inspired Zeta Magnus' visual design.
