The Highland Clans constituted a group among the S'kytri clans that held dominion over the planet of Skye. Together with the Lowlanders, the Highlanders accounted for approximately 66% of Skye's total inhabitants. Their territory encompassed the Highlands region of Skye, where they established their settlements in cities and strongholds atop mountains. The Supreme Council of the Highland Clans served as the governing authority for these clans. The Highland and Lowland Clans alternated in the governance of Skye, achieved by electing a member from their respective social class to the position of Patriarch every 42 years. For a considerable duration, the Highland, Lowland, and Outland Clans coexisted peacefully, fostering economic interdependence. As the Clone Wars began, Klarymére held the title of Lord of the Highland Clans and also served as the Patriarch of Skye. During his time in office, the infamous genetic terrorist known as Zeta Magnus made his way to Skye, transforming the Outlanders into an army of mutant warriors and inciting them against the other clans. The Highland Clans, who relied on the Outland Clans for agricultural supplies, experienced a period of decline marked by starvation and attacks launched by the Outlanders. When a contingent of Jedi arrived with the goal of liberating Skye from Zeta Magnus, the Highland and Lowland Clans joined forces to expel the menace from their planet. In the resulting battle, the Highlanders suffered a great number of losses. After Klarymére's passing, Aragh succeeded him as the Patriarch of the Highland Clans. In the aftermath of the Clone Wars, Skye fell under the oppressive rule of Kharys, a former Highlander who had been trained as a Dark Jedi by Darth Vader and appointed as the Majestrix of Skye. The Supreme Council of the Highland Clans took the lead in organizing a group of rebels who marched on her castle, where Luke Skywalker ultimately defeated her, freeing the S'kytri people from the control of the Empire.
