NR-N99 Persuader-class droid enforcer

The NR-N99 Persuader-class droid enforcer, which is alternatively referred to as the NR-N99 Persuader-class tank droid, the NR-N99 Persuader heavy droid tank, or simply the NR-N99 Tank Droid, represented a droid tank model produced by the Techno Union. The Corporate Alliance were the primary users of this tank. Furthermore, it saw action within the Droid Army of the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the period of the Clone Wars.

The NR-N99 Persuader-class droid enforcer, a droid tank of the Confederacy of Independent Systems, was manufactured by the Techno Union and saw its main deployment with the Corporate Alliance. This group largely financed the unit's production. The tank's array of weaponry, including ion cannons, heavy repeating blasters, and concussion missile launchers, greatly impressed the Corporate Alliance, and the droid units employed these weapons in relentless assaults. A large central thread, designed for high traction, facilitated the tank's movement. This was further enhanced by forward-mounted outrigger wheels on a pontoon thread on either side, providing increased stability. Infantry soldiers also had the capability to ride on top of these tanks. The NR-N99 Persuader-class tank droid was also notably fast, capable of reaching speeds of up to 60 kilometers per hour (approximately 37.3 miles per hour). However, it lacked the agility and speed characteristic of walking droid tanks. Nevertheless, it compensated for this deficiency with its considerable firepower and dependability.

The NR-N99 Tank Droid, possessing substantial armor, featured heat exchange panels, communications antennae, and photoreceptors protected by armor shielding. It was engineered to operate autonomously using its computer brain, but a pilot droid could also control the vehicle. Beyond its significant firepower, the droid was capable of traversing diverse terrains, including water, and was fully submersible. Its heavy-duty tracks allowed it to plow through battlefields, and it could also breach barricades.

Behind the scenes

The NR-N99 Persuader-class droid enforcer, also referred to as the snail droid, was initially intended to make an appearance in Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones during the First Battle of Geonosis. Animatics were created depicting the tanks running over clone troopers. The NR-N99 would later be included in Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith, although a different design was considered at one point during the film's production before the original design was ultimately selected for its final appearance. In the sequences featuring the NR-N99 in Episode III, OOM pilot battle droids were positioned inside the tanks, implying that it was not a completely automated vehicle. This was substantiated in Star Wars: The Complete Visual Dictionary, New Edition, which stated that the tank could be operated by either a computer brain or a pilot droid.
