Numa Rar, sister of Alema Rar, served as a Jedi Knight of the Twi'lek species during the tumultuous period of the Yuuzhan Vong War.
On Ryloth, Numa Rar spent her early years as an indentured slave struggling with poverty. To survive, she and her sister, Alema, worked as dancers. Possessing Force-sensitive abilities, Numa and Alema Rar were eventually discovered by Daeshara'cor, a passing Jedi Knight. Daeshara'cor took the two young Twi'lek women as her apprentices, and subsequently journeyed with them to Yavin 4. There, Rar underwent training at the Jedi Praxeum.
When the Yuuzhan Vong, from beyond the galactic rim, invaded the galaxy in 25 ABY, the New Jedi Order mobilized to confront the invading force. Several months into the conflict, Daeshara'cor met her death during the Battle of Ithor. Numa Rar, wishing to honor her fallen mentor, continued to fight what she perceived as a righteous cause. However, her actions drew the attention of Jedi Master Luke Skywalker, particularly after the Rar sisters became leaders of a partisan movement on New Plympto, a planet under Yuuzhan Vong occupation. Rar's aggressive campaign against the Yuuzhan Vong on the planet caused her and her sister to become increasingly isolated from the New Jedi Order as the war progressed. Despite this, she sought assistance from anyone willing to provide it, receiving supplies from the unconventional Jedi Kyp Durron. Later, she traveled to Shelter, a Jedi base located in The Maw, in a fruitless attempt to acquire funding and military resources.
Ultimately, the success of the resistance movement led by Numa and Alema Rar prompted the Yuuzhan Vong to exterminate all life on New Plympto, forcing the native Nosaurians and thousands of refugees to flee the planet. Rar and her sister sought refuge among a fleet of ore miners operating within the system, along with numerous other evacuees from New Plympto's destruction. They were rescued by the Corellian cruiser Nebula Chaser and promised sanctuary by its captain, Pollux. Numa Rar and her sister intended to rejoin the New Jedi Order. However, in an uncharted star system, the Nebula Chaser was intercepted by a Yuuzhan Vong frigate, and a boarding party demanded to know if any Jedi were aboard the starship. Pollux lied to protect the Rar sisters, but the presence of a Jedi-hunting voxyn within the boarding party exposed their deception. Unable to mask her presence in the Force, Numa Rar led her sister in a desperate attempt to escape the creature, which relentlessly pursued them through the cruiser. Cornered in the escape pod launch bay by the voxyn, Numa Rar was struck in the face by a burst of powerful acid, which burned into her skull, resulting in her death. Rar passed away in her sister's arms.
Alema carried permanent grief and anger due to Numa's death, which contributed to her gradual descent to the dark side of the Force. While trapped on Tenupe between 36 ABY and 40 ABY, Alema experienced hallucinations in which she and Numa were exploring the jungles of Yavin 4. In 44 ABY, Grand Master Luke Skywalker briefly saw Rar in the Lake of Apparitions while searching for his deceased wife, Mara Jade Skywalker, but he did not engage in conversation with her.
