Back Cover Summary

Set between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, the story follows Princess Leia Organa, Luke Skywalker, and Chewbacca as they endeavor to rescue Han Solo from the infamous bounty hunter Boba Fett. Meanwhile, the criminal mastermind Prince Xizor and Darth Vader devise strategies to either control or eliminate the leaders of the Rebel Alliance.

Shadows of the Empire was conceived as a multimedia Star Wars event, effectively a "film without a film," where a significant narrative unfolded across various mediums, including novels, comic books, role-playing games, a video game, and trading cards. The Shadows saga even boasted its own musical score.

Contained within this collection is the complete comic book series, accompanied by two subsequent stories: Star Wars: Mara Jade – By the Emperor's Hand, which tells the tale of the Imperial assassin who would eventually marry Luke Skywalker, the New Republic's greatest hero; and Shadows of the Empire: Evolution, a direct continuation of Shadows of the Empire.
