Ookbat was a location that was associated with the Galactic Republic. The Hutt Clan had seized control of the location by 228 BBY. During that year, the Republic Defense Coalition recaptured Ookbat, taking it back from the Hutt Clan; a few days later, Republic Commander Velko Jahen notified Jedi Master Elzar Mann about this event.
In current Star Wars canon, Ookbat received a mention in the first issue of the comic series Star Wars: The High Republic, released in 2023 as part of Phase III of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project. Marvel Comics published the issue, written by Cavan Scott, on November 8, 2023. In the Star Wars Legends continuity, the location Ookbat initially appeared in "Only Droids Serve the Maker," a short story by Kathy Tyers featured in the tenth issue of the Star Wars Adventure Journal magazine, which was released in May 1996.
