Operation on Hissrich

The Confederacy of Independent Systems initiated military action on Hissrich against Hissrich in the early stages of the Clone Wars. However, upon discovering the Separatist presence on the planet, the Jedi Order responded with the Hissrich Mission, dispatching a Jedi squad led by Jedi Master Mace Windu to ascertain the Separatists' intentions, ultimately leading to Hissrich's successful liberation.

Background

In the wake of the First Battle of Geonosis, the newly established Confederacy of Independent Systems expanded its influence into the Outer Rim Territories. The Confederacy aimed to secure multiple strategic positions as stepping stones towards Coruscant. The Galactic Republic and Jedi Council became aware of the Confederacy's scheme to utilize Hissrich as one such position. Consequently, the Council resolved to deploy Jedi Master Mace Windu with a small team to investigate Hissrich and determine the Confederacy's objectives for that world.

Due to strained resources, the Republic and Jedi Council were unable to provide Master Windu with a full clone trooper squadron for support. Nonetheless, Windu assembled a squad comprising fellow Jedi, including Masters Kit Fisto, Prosset Dibs, and Jedi Knight Rissa Mano. Windu and his squad departed Coruscant aboard the T-6 shuttle named Westwind.

Concurrently, General Grievous, the Supreme Commander of the Confederacy's Droid Army, engaged the services of droid bounty hunter AD-W4. Grievous commissioned him to oversee the Confederacy's "harvesting" operation on Hissrich and to neutralize any interference from the Republic or Jedi. AD-W4 accepted the Confederacy's terms, assuming command of the droid unit and outpost stationed on Hissrich.

The Jedi's Task

The Westwind successfully landed on Hissrich undetected by the Droid Army contingent present on the planet. However, a droid patrol, accompanied by an Octuptarra droid, encountered the Jedi and initiated an attack. While Windu, Fisto, and Dibs engaged the ground troops, Dibs managed to disable the Octuptarra droid. Following the initial skirmish, Windu and his squad found themselves surrounded by Hissrich's natives.

AD-W4 received notification of the Jedi's arrival. Windu and his squad were escorted to the natives' dwellings within the caves. AD-W4 led his forces as they commenced harvesting the trees. As AD-W4's forces proceeded with the harvesting, the Jedi defended the natives from the battle droids and droidekas. Windu confronted AD-W4 directly, while the remaining members of the squad continued to battle the droids until AD-W4 and the battle droids retreated. The Jedi discovered that the Confederacy's Harvesters were extracting resources from the plants due to their substantial energy-generating capabilities. Windu and Mano persisted in their fight against the Octuptarra droids and harvesters, while Fisto and Dibs safeguarded the natives. Reinforcements of harvesters and battle droids arrived to continue the mission.

Windu and Mano maintained their assault on the harvesters and battle droids. Fisto and Dibs became trapped following a cave-in at the natives' dwelling and were subsequently attacked by a Milodon. AD-W4 contacted Grievous, reporting the mission's success and the apparent "victory" in eliminating Windu and his Jedi companions. Grievous agreed to provide additional compensation, contingent upon receiving Windu's and his fellow Jedi's lightsabers. Windu and Mano evaded droids actively searching for them.

Fisto and Dibs successfully defeated the milodon, only to discover that the natives had perished during the conflict. These losses deeply affected Dibs, despite Fisto's reassurance that they had done everything within their power to protect them. As AD-W4's forces pressed on with their mission, the Jedi reconvened at the Westwind. There, Dibs accused Windu and the Council of deceiving them about the true nature of their mission, alleging that Windu was no different from the Separatists. Consequently, Dibs challenged Windu to a duel.

Windu engaged Dibs in combat, despite objections from Fisto and Mano. Windu ultimately defeated Dibs, disarming him of his lightsaber. Windu decided to bring him before the Council to determine his fate. Dibs was confined on the Westwind, while Windu, Fisto, and Mano continued the mission. Fisto launched an assault on the outpost, engaging the battle droids. Windu and Mano successfully infiltrated the outpost. Within the outpost's command center, Windu battled AD-W4, while Mano sabotaged the supply ship loaded with plants. She then assisted Fisto in eliminating the remaining battle droids. During his confrontation with AD-W4, Windu managed to knock the bounty hunter to the ground. Both combatants watched as the supply ship departed before detonating in an explosion. AD-W4 ejected and self-destructed.

The Result

Despite the losses incurred, the Republic dispatched troops to address the remaining Confederate forces and to assist the natives in replanting and rebuilding. The Jedi Council also collected samples of Hissrich's flora to analyze its energy properties, while Windu and his squad returned to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. There, Dibs was brought before the Jedi Council, facing charges of insubordination and treason. Although Dibs himself requested a death sentence, Windu persuaded the Council to assign him to work in the Temple's library.
