Oracle was based on the Imperial II-class Star Destroyer known as the Corrupter, under the command of its captain, Admiral Garreth Holtz. Following the Imperial triumph at the Battle of Hoth in 3 ABY, Admiral Holtz received orders to locate and obliterate the Defiance Task Force. This Rebel Alliance fleet was responsible for escorting survivors from Hoth to a secure location. Holtz planned to achieve this by dispatching viper probe droids to scan the vastness of space for the fleet's whereabouts, and Probe Group Oracle was among those assigned to this crucial mission.
During the Corrupter Task Force's probe deployment, they faced an assault from a pair of A-wings originating from the Mon Calamari Star Cruiser called Defiance. These A-wings were tasked with neutralizing the probes. While at least five probes belonging to Oracle were launched from the Corrupter, Ace Azzameen successfully destroyed all of them.
