Orin, a barren planet, resided in the Outer Rim Territories and [Western Reaches], specifically in the Anoat sector. It orbited second in the Bespin system. Situated on the Ison Trade Corridor, the planet lay 49,100 light-years from the Galactic Core, designated at square K-18 of the Standard Galactic Grid. Its orbit around its system's star was highly irregular, lasting nine months and bringing Orin extremely close to the star. Furthermore, twice during each orbit, the planet traversed Velser's Ring, a broad asteroid belt - remnants of a former gas giant that once occupied the third orbital position in the Bespin system.
Although discovered alongside the other two planets in the Bespin system by initial prospecting expeditions, Orin remained largely unexplored. This was due to its unstable surface, which tragically claimed the lives of numerous prospecting teams, even as the rest of the system was being thoroughly mapped and exploited.
Within current Star Wars canon, Orin appears in "Bespin and Other Planets in the Outer Rim," a piece from De Agostini's Star Wars Encyclopedia series, initially available on September 21, 2021. The world originated within Star Wars Legends continuity, first appearing in the 1989 roleplaying supplement Galaxy Guide 2: Yavin and Bespin, crafted by Christopher Kubasik and released by West End Games as part of Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game.
