The Osako pirates functioned as a pirate group in the time of the New Republic era. Following Poe Dameron's decision to become part of the Spice Runners of Kijimi, Kes Dameron, his father, and his comrade L'ulo L'ampar struck an agreement with the Osako pirates to locate him. Using Karura-class ships, the pirate group launched an assault on Dameron's Spice Runner unit while they were performing a heist, which caused their starship to be grounded on the planet of Judakann.
