Planetary Governor was an administrative role responsible for the oversight of a planet's government. Vaxvissh Kal Ness held the position of planetary governor for Durkteel during the decades following the Galactic Civil War.
Planetary governors were also integral to the bureaucratic structure of the Galactic Empire. When a planet joined the Empire, its existing governmental framework was largely preserved, albeit with adjustments to align with Imperial norms. Every Imperial world or star system was governed by an Imperial governor, typically chosen by the Emperor's advisors and often originating from outside the local region. Employing outsiders aimed to prevent bias, though occasionally a governor was a local, selected almost exclusively for their unwavering allegiance to the Empire.
Planetary governors functioned as both political figures and commanders with limited authority within the Imperial Military. While they possessed authority over local Imperial garrisons, their involvement in military, political, and intelligence activities was primarily advisory. Despite not typically commanding units, the Imperial Navy frequently collaborated with them. The Diplomatic Service disseminated Imperial directives for the governor to enact, and they were required to carry out instructions from the Moff of their sector or the Grand Moff of their Oversector. Certain planetary governors also held the title of Moff.
