Prototype vibroblade

Prototype vibroblades saw use by specially trained Sith commandos serving on Dark Lord of the Sith Revan's flagship. This occurred in 3957 BBY when the Jedi captured him during the Jedi Civil War fought between the Sith Empire and the Galactic Republic. Subsequently, in 3956 BBY, during the attack on the Republic Hammerhead-class cruiser Endar Spire above the planet Taris in the Outer Rim, a commander within the Sith military wielded a prototype vibroblade. This commander met his death at the hands of Revan, who, suffering from amnesia and believing himself to be a Republic soldier, was escaping the cruiser.

The prototype vibroblade was an inexpensive blade made of Cortosis-weave, priced at eighty credits, designed for adaptability and future upgrades as the wielder acquired more funds. This weapon could resist a lightsaber and was upgradeable with a vibration cell, energy projector, and durasteel bonding alloy coating.

Behind the scenes

The video game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, released in 2003 and created by BioWare, marked the initial appearance of the prototype vibroblade. It can be found on the corpse of a Sith commander who is killed during an unavoidable encounter on the Endar Spire. Although the commander typically uses a blaster rifle, he will switch to the prototype vibroblade if the player gets within melee range.
