The Puriv stormtrooper from the Empire of the Hand had a family connection. As a member of the Stromma species, Puriv was among a contingent of Stromma stormtroopers serving the Empire. In 8 ABY, he departed the Imperial I-class Star Destroyer Admonitor on orders from Stromma Council Liaison Nyama to preserve his family's good name. Soon after, stormtrooper Lhagva, who remained aboard, clarified the reasons for Puriv's leaving to Imperial Line Lieutenant Dramos Sanjin.
Timothy Zahn's 2011 novella Crisis of Faith, featured the family; it was included in the 20th Anniversary Edition of his novel Heir to the Empire from 1991.
