Pyussh berries were a specific kind of berry that grew on a planet situated within Wild Space. The Chiss warrior Mitth'raw'nuruodo utilized these berries, after fermenting and crushing them, to attract a local species of diminutive, nighttime animals. This was part of his strategy during an attack he launched against Imperial troops from the _Venator_-class Star Destroyer known as the Strikefast. Mitth'raw'nuruodo employed the explosive fruit as a distraction, bombing an Imperial camp and sneaking on a cargo hold.
The initial appearance of Pyussh berries in the new Star Wars canon occurred in Timothy Zahn's 2017 novel, Thrawn, as well as its corresponding audiobook version. Their first visual representation was in the first issue of Star Wars: Thrawn, a comic book adaptation of the novel from 2018 with illustrations by Luke Ross. Within the Star Wars Legends continuity, the berries received their initial mention in Zahn's 1995 short story titled Mist Encounter. This story was originally featured in Star Wars Adventure Journal 7 and was subsequently reworked into the opening two chapters of the canon novel Thrawn, marking the berries' debut in that continuity.
