R6-LE5

R6-LE5, also known by the moniker "Leefive," was a droid of the R6 astromech variety. This particular unit chose to offer its services to the Resistance at their base, which was located on the lunar surface of Ajan Kloss. During the conflict that pitted the Resistance against the First Order, R6-LE5, along with its counterpart R2-SHP, routinely maintained the CR90 corvette known as the Tantive IV, which functioned as the base's central command point. In the year 35 ABY, R6-LE5 was present at a meeting within the base where Generals Poe Dameron and Finn detailed their strategy for the Battle of Exegol.

Biography

Serving the Resistance during the war against the First Order was the R6 astromech droid designated R6-LE5, also called "Leefive." As a "sibling" counterpart to R2-SHP, R6-LE5 was a liberated droid that had no owner. These two droids worked together on the CR90 corvette Tantive IV, performing regular upkeep and repairs to ensure the vessel remained operational while it served as the command center for the Resistance base situated on the moon of Ajan Kloss.

In the year 35 ABY, R6-LE5 was in attendance at a gathering beneath the corvette at the base. During this meeting, generals Poe Dameron and Finn presented their battle plan for assaulting the forces of the Sith Eternal on the world of Exegol. Subsequently, the Resistance's military mobilized and achieved victory over their enemies.

Characteristics

R6-LE5 (right) served voluntarily in the Resistance.

R6-LE5 was not as sociable as R2-SHP and considered her service to the Resistance to be strictly of her own volition, though she did adhere to the established rank structure as outlined by Resistance protocols. She featured blue plating, a black sensor, and an Intellex VIII computing system integrated into her dome. As a unit of the R-series, R6-LE5 was produced by Industrial Automaton.

Behind the scenes

R6-LE5 was conceived for the sequel trilogy movie Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker, which premiered in December of 2019. The droid's existence was first revealed in a Star Wars: Droid Factory collection of figurines connected to the film, which was launched by The Walt Disney Company in November of 2019. Later, the droid was identified as "Leefive" in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: The Visual Dictionary, a companion book authored by Pablo Hidalgo and released concurrently with the movie.

The interior of R6-LE5's dome

Only R6-LE5's dome was constructed for the movie; the complete droid was realized by attaching R6-LE5's dome to R2-SHP's chassis for supplementary scenes. The dome is composed of hand-painted resin and styrene, with some metal embellishments and elements that can illuminate and blink. The prop was purposely aged to align with director George Lucas's "used future" design philosophy and also sustained further damage during filming, necessitating repairs to its exterior. The dome's dimensions are 4.65 centimeters by 46.5 centimeters by 34 centimeters (18.25 inches by 18.25 inches by 13.5 inches). The droid's dome was sold at a 2021 auction for $10,000.
