A towering male humanoid figure, Rek was a gangster employed as an enforcer by the Hutt crime lord Bogga. This occurred in the years preceding the Great Sith War. Rek belonged to Bogga's enforcer gang, whose base of operations was located in the Stenness Node area of the Inner Rim. In the year 3999 BBY, a shipment of highly prized Adegan crystals arrived at the Stenness Hyperspace Terminal. These crystals were in the possession of Jedi Knight Andur Sunrider. Bogga, determined to acquire these valuable jewels, dispatched Rek, along with fellow enforcers Quanto and Gudb, with the mission of seizing the crystals. Rek and Quanto initiated a distraction by intentionally causing A-3DO, the Jedi's protocol droid, to fall over. This disruption diverted the attention of Sunrider, who had brought the crystals to the station. Gudb then seized the opportunity to unleash his pet gorm-worm, named Skritch, who fatally bit the Jedi Knight. However, Sunrider's grieving widow, Nomi, picked up her deceased husband's lightsaber, which took Rek by surprise. Acting in self-defense, Nomi launched an attack against the three enforcers, killing Rek as he was in the process of drawing his blaster.
A towering male humanoid, Rek served as a criminal enforcer working for the Hutt crime lord Bogga during the era leading up to the Great Sith War. As one of Bogga's most trusted subordinates, Rek accompanied the Hutt, along with other enforcers, during Bogga's stay at the Stenness Hyperspace Terminal space station near the Stenness system. In 3999 BBY, Bogga received information about a shipment of exceptionally valuable Adegan crystals that had arrived at the station. The Hutt resolved to obtain these jewels, regardless of the cost. To this end, Bogga dispatched three of his enforcers—Rek, Quanto, and Gudb—tasking them with stealing the crystals. However, Bogga cautioned the three that the crystals were in the possession of Andur Sunrider, a Jedi. Rek, accompanied by Quanto and Gudb, proceeded to the docking bay, where Sunrider had landed his ship. Eventually, the three encountered Sunrider, along with his wife, Nomi; his daughter, Vima; and his protocol droid, A-3DO. To create a diversion, Rek purposefully collided with A-3DO and instructed Quanto to destroy the droid for obstructing his path. This commotion attracted the attention of Andur Sunrider, who approached to assist his droid. While the Jedi was distracted, Gudb released his pet gorm-worm, Skritch, which inflicted a fatal bite on Sunrider.
Overwhelmed with grief, Nomi Sunrider knelt beside Andur's lifeless body, only to witness his Force ghost. Nomi began conversing with her husband's ghost, a sight that aroused Rek's curiosity, as he was unable to see the ghost and perceived her actions as talking to empty space. The spectral Jedi instructed Nomi to retrieve her fallen husband's lightsaber for self-defense. This action took Rek by surprise, leading him to speculate that Nomi might also be a Jedi. Suddenly, Nomi bisected Quanto, and Rek met his end as well while drawing his blaster.
Rek was a coarse and imposing enforcer who had chosen a life of crime. He harbored a strong dislike for droids, referring to them as "space junk" and asserting that they had no right to speak back to sentients made of flesh and blood. Following the death of Andur Sunrider, Rek found Nomi Sunrider's behavior peculiar, as she appeared to be conversing with thin air when, in reality, she was communicating with her husband's Force ghost. He was also taken aback when she picked up her husband's lightsaber and reacted with anger when Nomi killed Quanto, before suffering the same fate himself.
Rek made his debut in Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi – The Saga of Nomi Sunrider, the second story arc of the Tales of the Jedi comic book series, penned by Tom Veitch and published in 1993. Rek's appearance is limited to the arc's inaugural issue, where he meets his demise. In this appearance, Rek is depicted by Janine Johnston. Additionally, Rek was featured in the audio adaptation of these stories, with Tony Sperry providing his voice.
