A formal agreement was in place between the Galactic Republic and the world of Mandalore. This agreement had been signed a minimum of one hundred years prior to the Siege of Mandalore which took place in 19 BBY. This agreement restricted the Republic from launching an invasion of Mandalore. Both the Jedi Master known as Obi-Wan Kenobi and the Prime Minister named Almec both pointed out that the invasion, which was supported by the Grand Army of the Republic and spearheaded by Lady Bo-Katan Kryze, Ahsoka Tano, and Clone Commander Rex with the objective of removing the rogue Sith Lord Maul from power, constituted a breach of the existing agreement. Kryze, however, was unconcerned about this breach.
The first reference to the Republic's agreement with Mandalore appeared in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars episode titled "Old Friends Not Forgotten," which served as the initial installment of the show's four-part concluding arc. This episode was initially broadcast on April 17, 2020.
