During the time of the Clone Wars, the Republic's Senate saw the introduction of a bill that would grant the government permission to establish new credit lines with the InterGalactic Banking Clan. The intention behind deregulating banking practices was to enable the Republic to ramp up its expenditure on the Grand Army, as well as enact further laws aimed at boosting the production of clone troopers. Senator Padmé Amidala, along with other dissenting voices, worked to delay the bill's progress. To subdue this opposition and advance the war effort, a bombing was strategically carried out on Coruscant's central power distribution grid, effectively dismantling the peace initiative and compelling the Senate to approve the bill through a vote. This deregulation subsequently paved the way for the introduction and passage of a bill designed to augment the production of Republic clone troopers.
