RTT-04 armored troop transport

Description

The Republic troop transport, also designated as the RTT-04 armored troop transport, was a lightly armored infantry fighting vehicle. It was part of the repulsorcraft line designed and built by Rothana Heavy Engineering for the Galactic Republic's military forces. This vehicle was known for its compact size and speed, making it light enough for a LAAT carrier to transport and deploy it directly onto the battlefield. Its agility and ability to quickly reinforce infantry units could often shift the momentum of a battle.

The RTT-04 had the capacity to transport a squad of eight to twelve fully equipped clone troopers, along with all their necessary combat equipment. It could also be configured to carry supplies. The vehicle required a crew of two: a pilot and either a co-pilot or a gunner. While its armor was light and it was considered somewhat fragile, the RTT-04 possessed substantial firepower. Its primary weapon was a dual dorsal turret equipped with a mass-driver missile launcher, similar to those used on Low Altitude Assault Transport variants. For secondary armament, it featured a pair of light laser cannon.

Role

The RTT-04's role as a troop carrier allowed it to deploy clone trooper squads into combat zones, providing essential light vehicle support. Engineering squads also utilized it as a heavy hauler. Following their decommissioning, these vehicles were repurposed as civilian craft for industrial applications and resource exploration.

History

During the Clone Wars, Rothana Heavy Engineering manufactured the RTT-04 armored troop transport for use by the Galactic Republic in their war against the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Although numerous units were produced during the Clone Wars, only a small number remained operational by the end of the conflict and into the Imperial Era after the Galactic Republic transformed into the Galactic Empire. The Imperial Army opted not to include the RTT-04 in their Order of Battle. Consequently, the remaining vehicles were stripped of their weapons systems and sold as military surplus for industrial and resource exploration purposes.
