Rey's speeder, a vehicle crafted entirely by Rey, came to life during her time on her homeworld of Jakku. Its construction involved piecing together salvaged components from the starship graveyards of Jakku, specifically Niima Outpost, along with parts bartered from Teedo traders. By combining elements of both a speeder and a swoop, Rey ingeniously repurposed discarded military-grade hardware and civilian machinery to create her vehicle. This speeder possessed exceptional speed and a high carrying capacity, making it supremely well-suited for extensive scavenging expeditions.
The speeder belonging to Rey derived its power from a pair of potent twin-turbojet engines, salvaged from a derelict cargo hauler. Rey opted for a vertically stacked engine configuration, securing them to amplified power intakes originally from an Imperial gunship. Further enhancements included the addition of racing swoop afterburners and an assortment of repulsorlifts recovered from wrecked X-wing starfighters. When carrying light loads, the speeder's powerful engines and repulsorlifts allowed it to achieve an altitude comparable to that of a dedicated airspeeder.
Rey's speeder incorporated a rider authentication system, preventing unauthorized activation without a matching fingerprint. The vehicle's wiring was modified to allow Rey to electrify the chassis, delivering a shock to any potential thieves or opportunistic scavengers while unattended. Furthermore, the speeder's unique handling characteristics made it difficult to control for anyone unfamiliar with its operation.
Audiences first saw Rey's speeder in the 2015 cinematic release, Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens. Before its debut in the film, the speeder was previewed in Star Wars: The Force Awakens Immersive 360 Experience, a promotional video produced exclusively for Facebook.
