RH-series research droid

The RH-series research droid, a science droid model, was created by Cybot Galactica. This droid was intended to be a mobile database and a research assistant. Due to its lack of popularity, only a small number of these droids, numbering in the thousands, were ever produced. During the Galactic Civil War, the Rebel Alliance's Alliance R&D division made extensive use of RH-series research droids.

Characteristics

This RH-series research droid, part of a line of science droid, was conceived to provide assistance to field scientists during their research expeditions. It was equipped with a built-in scientific database, enabling it to function as a research assistant. The RH-series was actually a variation of the 2R-series medical droid.

The RH-series possessed a humanoid frame, protected by plasteel plating, and stood a little under two meters in height. Located in their hands were a variety of manipulators, probes, lights, tools, and other instruments that allowed them to perform their scientific and research duties. The droid's head was a flattened oval shape, featuring a single, curved sensor window that resembled a helmet visor.

The RH-series exhibited considerable agility and stability, which resulted in minimal maintenance requirements for continued operation. While working in the field, these droids were known to be detail-oriented and often obsessed with their work, earning them a reputation for both mechanical and personal dependability. If an RH-series droid was not subjected to a memory wipe for an extended time, they could become irritable and develop obsessive-compulsive behaviors.

History

Cybot Galactica manufactured the RH-series research droid, but it did not gain widespread acceptance within the scientific community, leading to a limited production run of only a few thousand units. However, by the time of the Galactic Civil War, most of these droids remained in service and were available for purchase at a price of 11,000 credits.

RH-series droids were commonly deployed in isolated laboratories, where they either conducted or assisted in experiments deemed too hazardous for organic lifeforms. They also took the lead in field research across disciplines like anthropology, archaeology, and biology. The Rebel Alliance made extensive use of many RH-series droids, both within Alliance R&D and in collaboration with freelance scientists and scholars hired by the rebels, to discover new planets and establish contact with unfamiliar species.

Behind the scenes

The RH-series research droid was initially introduced in Fully Operational, a 2018 sourcebook for Fantasy Flight Games' Star Wars: Age of Rebellion roleplaying game.
