The Rhen Var Citadel, situated on the planet of Rhen Var, was an age-old construction. Its features included an expansive courtyard leading to a four-story tower, an ancient burial chamber, and an observatory with a dome. At the Citadel's heart stood a keep, with the watch located to its south. Statues commemorating Ross Mysliwiec, a Jedi Master of old, adorned both the watch and the keep. This Citadel would later become the setting for multiple conflicts.
During the Battle of Rhen Var, both the forces of the Galactic Republic and those of the Confederacy of Independent Systems fought within the citadel. This conflict arose when the CIS sought to utilize the location as a strategic point for coordinating the arrival of reinforcements at the Jedi monument, a distant site where Anakin Skywalker was engaged in a struggle to enter the temple and locate the tomb of Ulic Qel-Droma. Clone troopers swiftly eliminated the droids occupying the Citadel, but the battle left the area devastated.
During the era of the Galactic Civil War, the Galactic Empire made use of the Citadel, establishing a monitoring post there to track the movements of Rebel Alliance fleet vessels. Upon discovering the Imperial presence, the Rebels initiated an attack with the aim of seizing the station. While they initially captured the Citadel, they were subsequently defeated by an Imperial counteroffensive launched a few days later to reclaim their territory.
The Rhen Var Citadel is featured as a map in the 2004 video game Star Wars: Battlefront. Within the Historical Campaign, the battle depicted on the map is presented as an Imperial mission. However, according to Leland Chee, the custodian of Lucasfilm's Holocron continuity database, the game's narrative holds secondary continuity status. The map also makes an appearance in the game's sequel through an Xbox Live update. However, before the Xbox update, the map was accessible on the PSP version. It can be found on the UMD disc of the game and restored into it.
