Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (soundtrack)

The motion picture Rogue One: A Star Wars Story featured a soundtrack crafted by Michael Giacchino. This musical score was made available to the public on December 16, 2016, coinciding with the movie's theatrical release. The score not only introduced fresh musical ideas, such as The Imperial Suite and the messenger motif, but also incorporated leitmotifs originally composed by John Williams for the Star Wars saga, with emphasis on themes from Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. The Rogue One soundtrack also prominently features the dies irae, a key element within Jyn Erso's theme.

Unlike the Star Wars saga films, the musical score begins without the "Star Wars Main Title"; however, a brief rendition of the Main Title is played during the track "Scrambling the Rebel Fleet" when C-3PO and R2-D2 make an appearance on screen. A chorus is employed in the tracks "Your Father Would Be Proud" and "Hope," which accompanies the death of the protagonists and fellow members of the Rebel Alliance in the film.

The music of Rogue One finds its way into later Star Wars productions. Specifically, both the hope motif and the leitmotif associated with the squad Rogue One are featured in the LEGO Star Wars: All-Stars episode "The Good Stuff!." Furthermore, the Rogue One theme served as the introductory music for Diego Luna (Cassian Jeron Andor) and Alan Tudyk (K-2SO) at the D23 Expo event in 2019, where they discussed the then-upcoming television series Andor.
