His appointment as Minister of Defense occurred within an 11-day window. This period started when Dur Gejjen ascended to the role of Five World Prime Minister and concluded when Admiral Wedge Antilles met with Han and Leia Solo aboard the Thrackan Sal-Solo in the Kiris Asteroid Cluster. During this meeting between Antilles and Gejjen with the Solos, they requested that the Solos meet with Hapan Queen Mother Tenel Ka Djo; it was disclosed that Willems was intended to take their place had they declined.
