The royal reception hall constituted a portion of the royal palace belonging to the Pijali monarchy, which was situated on the planet Pijal within the Inner Rim. This hall was positioned immediately outside the palace's Celestial Chalice temple and featured a pair of substantial wooden doors that provided access to the amphitheater's entrance tunnel; these doors were opened only a small number of times during each Pijali monarch's rule. By the Republic Era, palace personnel maintained the oiled state of the reception hall door hinges, and Czerka Corporation sentry droids were stationed to provide security in the area.
In 40 BBY, Rael Averross, the lord regent of Pijal, conducted a tour of the Pijali palace for Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn and his Padawan, Obi-Wan Kenobi. Averross, as part of their informational briefing, brought the two Jedi to the reception hall while detailing that the coronation of Princess Fanry would take place in the adjacent Celestial Chalice. A few days later, Jinn returned to the hall and proceeded through its doors after being scanned by the droids of Czerka.
The royal reception hall made an appearance in Master & Apprentice, a 2019 novel penned by Claudia Gray.
