Pijali palace

The Pijali palace, a royal residence, stood proudly on the planet Pijal, located within the Inner Rim. It functioned as the official home for Pijal's monarch, specifically Princess Fanry.

History

As the official residence, the Pijali palace played host to the Pijali monarchy. During their mission to Pijal in 40 BBY, Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn and his Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi paid a visit to the palace. By the time of their visit, the palace's labyrinthine corridors showed the wear and tear of centuries of constant use.

Layout

The Pijali monarchy's palace was built amidst a dense conifer-forested area, not far from Pijal's capital city. The structure was hewn into the face of white stone cliffs, featuring various shaped windows that provided views of the ocean. When viewed from above, the only visible element was the peak of the Celestial Chalice. The complex was surrounded by meticulously maintained lawns and iron fencing. The palace interior was subtly, yet richly, decorated. Polished stone framed the main entry doors, which opened onto a long walkway.

Celestial Chalice

A circular amphitheater, the Celestial Chalice, honored Pijal's ancient deities. An octagonal altar sat atop blue tiled flooring. It was reserved for ceremonies, used only two or three times during a monarch's reign. Spectators would observe from seats arranged around the dais. Access to the Celestial Chalice was granted through a pair of wood doors located at the far end of the royal reception hall.

Regent's quarters

Within the palace were designated Regent's quarters, which included a sizable bedroom complete with a fireplace. The ceiling was lavishly decorated, although much of the other furniture had deteriorated over the years. A formal audience chamber was also part of the regent's allocated space.

Stables

The stables provided housing for Pijal varactyls belonging to the monarchy. These creatures were used for recreational riding and the Grand Hunt. Otherwise, the varactyls were kept in stalls and tended to by servants.

Throne room

An elegant space, the throne room featured stone scrollwork intricately carved into its walls. Pink-tinted glass windows allowed light to filter in, illuminating fine chairs and the throne reserved for the monarch. The floor was tiled, and two large doors opened into the palace's Grand Hall.

Grand Hall

A heavy set of double doors connected the throne room to the Grand Hall. This area consisted of a lengthy hallway equipped with a large viewscreen.

Treasury

The palace contained a treasury filled with valuable jewelry, and a datapad-based system was used to keep track of the items. The traditional crown employed in Pijali coronations was stored in the treasury, alongside various other head ornaments.

Guest suites

For the monarch's visitors, the palace provided guest suites. These suites featured tall windows that offered sea views, as well as attached balconies.

Library

The palace also housed a library that contained Pijal's records, including census data. The library had a cavernous atmosphere and was fitted with marble floor tiles.

Behind the scenes

The Pijali palace made an appearance in Master & Apprentice, a 2019 canon novel penned by Claudia Gray.
