Ruu

Coronet City temple's Padawan, Ruu, a trans male Lucem, requested assistance from Jedi Master Conithr. He wanted his name updated in the Jedi records, and later, he requested Conithr become his master. Following the destruction of Starlight Beacon, he and his master defied the Jedi Council's recall order to Coruscant, opting instead to defend Corellia against the Nihil. During a battle, Conithr gave her life to protect Ruu from the Nihil. Disenchanted with the Jedi Order, he abandoned the Jedi principles, becoming indifferent to using the light or dark side. He took a position as an assistant in Hamatan's twist-candy enterprise, while simultaneously waging a personal war against the Nihil, even utilizing their masks as a form of disguise.

In the year 229 BBY, he eliminated a Nihil squad transporting a new Nihil scav droid model, which drew the attention of Alys Ongwa. Subsequently, Ongwa and Svi'no Atchapat paid a visit to the candy business, noticing his injuries. Later that same evening, Ruu discovered the factory responsible for manufacturing the scav droids and launched an assault on it. Ongwa and Atchapat joined him, ultimately persuading him to collaborate with them to destroy the facility. Ruu shared his misgivings about the Jedi Order with the women, who assured him he could still fight for Corellia without being a Jedi. They extended an invitation for Ruu to become part of their crew, which he accepted. Ruu's weapon of choice was a blue lightsaber.

Alyssa Wong penned the young-adult short story "Rogue Element" where Ruu made his debut. This short story was included in the Barnes & Noble exclusive edition of The High Republic: Tales of Light and Life, a 2023 anthology novel and a component of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project. Wong has confirmed the character's trans identity and voiced her hope for increased representation of transmasc characters within the Star Wars universe.

The character's initial visual representation appeared on the cover art for The High Republic Adventures: Crash Landing, a one-shot comic authored by Daniel José Older, with cover and interior artwork created by Rachele Aragno. Dark Horse Comics is slated to publish the issue on March 20, 2024. Wong verified via Twitter that the cover image includes a depiction of Ruu. Wong also shared her enthusiasm for the upcoming release, mentioning she had the privilege of reading the script. On December 13, 2023, Wong revealed artwork she commissioned of Ruu's design, created by Cherriielle, a variant cover artist for the third issue of the Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures comic series from 2023. The author conveyed her affection for the character, particularly his transformation from Jedi to vigilante. The commissioned artwork portrays Ruu in dark attire, holding a lightsaber.
