Salamanders were a class of amphibian that inhabited the galaxy. On the planet Koboh, one could encounter the frilled newt, a specific kind of salamander. To escape the heat, these creatures commonly visited the rock pools and bodies of water within the Dredger Gorge area, proving too quick to capture while submerged. The mucous salamander was a salamander native to the moon Yavin 4. Furthermore, the planet Thule served as another habitat for salamanders. The oral cavity of the Whippomorn species possessed a gape comparable to that of a salamander.
The initial mention of salamanders occurred in "Hear Nothing, See Nothing, Say Nothing," a brief narrative penned by Rae Carson and featured in the 2017 collection of stories titled Canto Bight. Their debut appearance in a video game was in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor (2023), a project of Respawn Entertainment. Within the Star Wars Legends timeline, salamanders were first introduced in Children of the Jedi, a 1995 novel authored by Barbara Hambly.
