Savan

Savan, a member of the Falleen royal lineage and niece to Prince Xizor, found herself spared from Darth Vader's devastating attack on her family's city on Falleen because she was working off-world for her uncle. Following Xizor's demise in 3 ABY, she briefly assumed the unofficial role of Underlord within the Black Sun organization. Her attempt to secure Guri's services led to her arrest by the New Republic on Hurd's Moon shortly after the Battle of Endor.

Biography

Early life

Savan

Growing up within the royal families of Falleen, Savan swiftly adapted to the environment characterized by constant power struggles and intricate schemes. Her association with the Black Sun criminal syndicate likely originated through her uncle, Prince Xizor. The precise timing of Savan's entry into Black Sun remains unclear. However, by 7 BBY, she was engaged in off-world operations for her uncle's organization, distinguishing herself as one of the few Falleen to venture beyond their native planet. This absence proved crucial, as it spared her from the Imperial bombardment that decimated much of her family. Presumed dead by authorities, a notion she never corrected, Savan found the resulting anonymity advantageous to her criminal pursuits. Whether Xizor himself was aware of her survival remains unknown; if he was, he never acknowledged it.

In the years that followed, Savan maintained a discreet presence, steadily climbing the ranks of her uncle's criminal network with the ultimate goal of succeeding him. However, Xizor's death in 4 ABY prompted a change in her strategy. Employing artificial flesh, she adopted the guise of a female Human and secured a position on the Vigos, the remaining central authority of Black Sun. This was accomplished by exploiting her uncle's assassination of Green, the sole Human Vigo, and claiming his seat on the council. True to her Falleen nature, she quickly manipulated the rivalries among her fellow councilors, turning them against each other.

While outwardly presenting herself as a unifying force seeking to reconcile the feuding Vigos, Savan secretly managed a vast intelligence network that fueled their conflicts, escalating their disputes into a virtual civil war. By employing a divide-and-conquer strategy, she aimed to weaken her rivals, ensuring none were strong enough to challenge her rise to power. A primary objective in this scheme was acquiring her uncle's Human replica droid, Guri, which would provide her with a decisive advantage.

The hunt for Guri

Savan was aware that Guri possessed crucial Black Sun secrets stored in her electronic memory, entrusted to her by Xizor during her tenure as his lieutenant and chief enforcer. Furthermore, she held the distinction of being the only individual alive who knew Guri's master command codes, which were based on her family's DNA configuration. Once captured, the droid would serve her with the same loyalty she had shown Xizor. Disguised as Azool, an elderly Falleen shopkeeper, Savan hired Kar Yang, a Hiitian bounty hunter, to capture Guri. Unbeknownst to Yang, Savan was also using his droid, Lintu, to monitor him and ensure his allegiance. Shortly thereafter, she was confronted by Prevaro, a Rodian who believed "Azool" was Xizor in disguise. Savan resolved the situation peacefully by revealing her true identity and appointing him as her new chief lieutenant.

Meanwhile, Yang tracked Guri from Hurd's Moon to Murninkam and back, eventually realizing he had been deceived and destroying his assistant droid. He continued his mission, now intending to capture Guri for his own profit. Recognizing that her deception had backfired, Savan decided to personally oversee Guri's capture, traveling to Hurd's Moon herself. However, she made a final appearance in her Human disguise, approaching an Alliance delegation led by Princess Leia Organa and Han Solo on behalf of her Black Sun faction, seeking to negotiate a truce. The meeting was interrupted by an attack, ostensibly by soldiers from a rival faction, but actually orchestrated by Savan herself to gain the Rebels' trust. Princess Leia, however, grew suspicious and eventually uncovered Savan's true identity.

Enemy of the New Republic

Upon arriving on Hurd's Moon, Savan and Prevaro quickly discovered that Guri was in the possession of Massad Thrumble, a retired Imperial Admiral and droid engineer. They subsequently assembled a small army of local criminals to attack Thrumble's fortress. Unbeknownst to them, two other groups were also preparing to assault the fortress: an Alliance team consisting of Han Solo, Leia Organa, Lando Calrissian, Chewbacca, and Luke Skywalker; and a group led by rogue scientist Spinda Caveel, who also sought the information Guri possessed, and his bodyguards, the Pikkel Sisters.

Upon entering the fortress, Savan deployed the majority of her forces to engage the other parties while she searched for Guri. She located her with Thrumble and his medical droid, A-OIC, who were attempting to escape the battle. Holding them at blaster point, she approached Guri and triumphantly whispered the master command code in her ear. Expecting the desired result, she then unleashed the deadly assassin droid on the researcher and his droid. To her shock and dismay, Guri suddenly turned and attacked her instead, rendering her unconscious. It was later revealed that Thrumble had erased the code, along with any Black Sun knowledge Guri possessed, just hours before.

Defeat and conviction

Meanwhile, the Alliance team gained the advantage and moved to arrest Savan. She was subsequently taken into custody by local authorities, although the specific charges against her remain unclear. Ultimately, Savan's efforts proved futile as Black Sun collapsed due to the internal conflicts she had instigated. As the Vigos eliminated each other, central authority disintegrated, and the organization, lacking leadership, splintered. While this outcome aligned with her plan, Savan was no longer in a position to capitalize on it.

Personality and traits

Savan was proud and conceited.

Savan possessed exceptional planning skills, accurately predicting the decline of Black Sun's leadership and timing her actions accordingly. She also demonstrated remarkable skill in disguise, using simple masks to convincingly portray both a Human woman and an elderly Falleen male. Savan was also proficient in piloting transport starships and wielding blasters, skills likely acquired during her time as a lower-level Black Sun operative.

Similar to her uncle, Savan was characterized by pride and vanity. While willing to undertake lower-level tasks when necessary, she generally held mercenaries and low-ranking Black Sun soldiers in contempt, viewing them as inferior. Her personality, shaped by her Falleen upbringing amidst scheming noble houses, was calculating and distrustful. She preferred to maintain complete control over major operations and was reluctant to delegate responsibility.

Behind the scenes

In her initial appearance in Shadows of the Empire: Evolution 2, Savan was depicted with brown eyes. However, in all subsequent appearances, her eyes have been portrayed as purple.
