Scarab-class starfighter
The Scarab-class starfighter functioned as a fighter for the Trade Federation. It served as an earlier design to the Vulture-class droid starfighter.
Characteristics

The design of the Scarab starfighter incorporated a flat body and a pair of outrigger wings. Each wing was connected to the main body using two robust struts. In standard flight, the wings would remain locked against the body. However, during combat, they would extend outward, enhancing both firepower and maneuverability.
This versatile fighter possessed the capability to engage targets in space, within a planet's atmosphere, and on the ground. Despite lacking the agility of its successor, the Vulture-class starfighter, the Scarab-class boasted strong armor and deflector shields. A cockpit was included in the Scarab, and it was typically piloted by a droid. Unlike the Vulture-class, the Scarab could operate without the need for a droid control unit.
History

Prior to the Invasion of Naboo in 32 BBY, the Trade Federation conducted tests of Scarab starfighters in both the Naboo system and the Karthakk system. The mercenary Vana Sage was hired to evaluate the fighter in combat, but her contract was later violated. While effective, the Scarab fighters were ultimately outmatched by the combined efforts of Rhys Dallows, Vana Sage, and Nym's pirates, who played a crucial role in slowing down the Federation's advance on Naboo and Lok.
Even after being replaced by the Vulture-class, the Scarab-class starfighters remained in service for at least ten years later. They also saw action during the Battle of Kothlis in the Clone Wars.
Behind the scenes
The Scarab's initial appearance was in the 2001 video game titled Star Wars: Starfighter.
