Following Moff Gideon's acquisition of the Darksaber from Lady Bo-Katan Kryze of the Galactic Empire during the time of the Great Purge of Mandalore, Kryze began a quest to find the legendary weapon, hoping to regain her position as the leader of the planet Mandalore. Her suspicions that Gideon was still in possession of the weapon were validated during an assault that took place on a Gozanti-class Assault Carrier in 9 ABY. However, during the second rescue of Grogu, Din Djarin, a Child of the Watch, engaged Gideon in combat and emerged victorious, unknowingly becoming the new owner of the Darksaber. Because she no longer possessed the Darksaber, the Mandalorian warriors and fleet that had gathered around her deserted her and chose the path of mercenaries.
