A sensor dome functioned as a specialized sensor hat, designed to acquire environmental information pertaining to the individual wearing it. The bounty hunter known as Carib Diss utilized a uniquely designed sensor dome, featuring gray and orange coloring, to accommodate his species' peculiar facial structure. This structure necessitated an intimidating grimace for Diss to achieve proper vision. Diss was observed wearing this dome within the Spice Runners' Den, situated in Kijimi City on the planet of Kijimi, during the year 35 ABY.
The initial appearance of a sensor dome occurred in the 2019 release of the sequel trilogy movie, Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker. Its identification was first established within the companion reference material, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: The Visual Dictionary, authored by Pablo Hidalgo. The character concept art for Carib Diss, titled "Wizard 41," created by creature concept designer and senior sculptor Ivan Manzella for the movie included a sensor dome. The dome's color was initially envisioned as black, in contrast to its final gray and orange design.
