During one of Wilhuff Tarkin's trips to the Carrion Spike, he observed a male veermok he named Shadow. This primate, a non-sentient species indigenous to Eriadu, was smaller than other veermoks in the vicinity. He frequently appeared to shadow a larger veermok known as Lord. While Lord occasionally accepted Shadow's presence, he would also drive him away. In turn, Shadow was trailed by a group of eight smaller male veermoks.
Lord had been the accepted leader of the veermok pack for a long time, but Shadow and his followers plotted to overthrow him. They bided their time until Lord was distracted by Tarkin's arrival, then launched a coordinated attack. During the battle, three of Shadow's veermoks died under Lord's claws as Shadow observed. The remaining veermoks succeeded in killing Lord.
As the veermoks celebrated their victory, Tarkin hurled his vibro-lance at Shadow, killing him and ending his short-lived reign. The remaining veermoks, stunned by this turn of events, passively watched Tarkin. They then followed him as he departed the Carrion Spike. They vanished from the region soon after and were never seen again.
